Notes on Ingredients

- Blueberries: Fresh blueberries are the star of this cocktail. If fresh blueberries aren't available, frozen ones can work just as well.
- Basil: The basil leaves add a fragrant, herbal note that complements the sweetness of the blueberries beautifully.
- Ginger: A knob of fresh ginger adds a nice spice kick but can be left out if you don't have this around.
- Cinnamon: A subtle hint of cinnamon adds depth and a touch of spice, making this cocktail unique. Trust me it will make this cocktail more interesting!

How to Make This Summer Cocktail

- In a small saucepan, combine the blueberries, ginger slices, maple syrup, and 3 basil leaves. Let the mixture simmer on medium-high heat for 7-10 minutes, stirring occasionally until the blueberries have broken down and the mixture has thickened.

2. Use an immersion blender to blend the mixture until smooth. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve to remove any solids.

3. In a cocktail shaker, add 4 oz of the blueberry sauce, lime juice, and 2 basil leaves. Muddle the basil leaves to release their flavors. Fill the shaker with ice and stir well to combine and chill the mixture.

4. Using a strainer, pour the cocktail into glasses filled with ice.Top each glass with sparkling water and garnish with additional basil leaves.
Variations and Substitutions
- Non-Alcoholic Version: Replace the gin with an additional 4 oz of club soda or a non-alcoholic gin alternative. You can also use ginger beer or tonic water instead of sparkling water, or any other flavored soda water.
- Liquor options: Instead of gin, tequila or vodka would be other great options.
- Different berries: Instead of a blueberry gin cocktail, make it with raspberries, blackberries, or strawberries for a different flavor profile.
- Herb substitutions: Try using mint or rosemary instead of basil for a unique twist.
- Sweetness: Adjust the sweetness to your liking by adding more or less maple syrup. Honey, agave or simple syrup can also be used as alternatives.
- Tartness: Adjust the tartness as well to your liking. You could also use fresh lemon juice instead of lime.
