I love a sweet and spicy combination especially in a drink. This Spicy Mango Mezcal Margarita just does that. Did I mention it's also smoky from the mezcal and salty from the rim? My trick to making this spicy is infusing the mezcal with the jalapeños but also by adding some cayenne into the salted rim.
I love making different varieties of margaritas like this Watermelon Matcha Margarita or this Apple Cider Margarita because you can easily play with flavors and get creative.

Notes on Ingredients
- Tajín: Tajín is a Mexican seasoning of dried chilis. It's not spicy in my opinion but adds a nice flavor and tang which goes so well with the mangos. If you can't find this in the grocery store, you can just make a rim with salt and cayenne pepper.
- Ground Cayenne: A pinch of cayenne pepper adds to the heat level of the rim. so if you like it spicier, feel free to add more.
- Mango: Use ripe mangos for the sweetest drink. you can also use frozen mango which will give it a thick smoothie texture.
- Agave Syrup: I use agave here but you can swap it with maple syrup or honey. You could also use simple syrup and infuse it with jalapeños but I prefer to use an alternative to unrefined sugar when possible. Depending on how sweet your mangos are you may need less or more so feel free to adjust the quantity!

How to Make It
1. Infuse the Mezcal: Add the jalapeños to the mezcal and let them infuse it while you prepare your other ingredients.
2. Prepare the rim: add the salt, tajin, and cayenne to a plate. Using a lime wedge, rub the rim of your glass, then invert the glass into the salt mix to coat the rim evenly. Set aside.
3. Blend: add the mango, lime juice, and the triple sec to a container. Using an immersion blender (or blender), blend until smooth then transfer to a cocktail shaker.
4. Stir and serve: Add the jalapeño-infused mezcal and ice into the same shaker and stir. Then use a cocktail strainer to pour the drink into prepared glasses. For extra spice, add a slice of jalapeño for garnish.
Batching Cocktails for a Gathering
Want to make this for a outdoor gathering or a dinner party? Because you definitely can. You can make a pitcher of this and leave in the fridge to serve later in the day. See recipe card to see how to make a pitcher worth of margaritas.
Spicy Mango Mezcal Margarita Variations
- Liquor: if you're not a fan of the smokiness of the mezcal, trade it in for tequila.
- Fruits: you can get creative and use a variety of fruit like passion fruit or pineapple for example.
